Has anyone used devices like the "PowerBreathe" breathing trainer and had any results? I read an article on this recently, which was promoting it as a good add-on to running training. (Article was probably paid for to advertise it). Just interested to find out if they work and worth the time.

I have a PowerBreathe. It is a well made piece of kit, but was expensive - £40 I think. It is odd to use - it strengthens the lungs when sucking air in - not blowing out!! The resistance is adjustable and it is advisable to start with it as easy as possible to stop your ears popping and your eyeballs falling in your head!!
I am asthmatic and thought it would strengthen my lungs. I used it fastidiously, twice per day for 6 months last year. I improved dramatically with my capability to use the equipment and increased the resistance from minimum to maximum over the period. It did not seem to make any difference to my running though......and eventually I got fed up of cleaning it every day!
Perhaps I will give it another go...it may work better on old men....
