Do they help prevent calf injuries, if so any suggested or recommended type?

I bought a few pairs of compression socks last year. I tried them because I suffer from lower leg soreness after races. There was a good piece about them in the Fellrunner magazine last year. The main points were that they speed up your recovery and the fit had to be spot on if they were to be of any use. I think like most things, buy the best you can afford. Another plus is they keep your legs clean in XC.

You can also get compression tights (for both gents & ladies) I got RY400's, not cheap though.

The article on compression socks was on page 70 of the spring 2011 edition of the Fellrunner. It by Denise Park and it was really in depth as you would expect from Denise.
