Hi. Which event are you doing?
I've only done one ultra event so can hardly call myself a seasoned ultra runner. A while ago I did the High Peak Challenge, a 40 mile event based around Buxton. It was a great day out, checkpoints every 3 or 4 miles bursting with food and drink of umpteen varieties. It was very well marked and marshalled to the extent that I scarcely had to look at my map at all.
I started off REALLY slowly - right at the back of the field - and just gradually worked my way through. I had various people joining me at certain points on the route which was a big help.
Good luck and enjoy the day.

Thanks for your feedback. I have now completed my ultra marathon. The Wall, Carlisle to Newcastle along the route of Hadrians Wall. 69 miles. A great experience. This was a very well organised race by Rat Race, the course was well waymarked, getting lost was one of my fears but no problems with the route. Highly recommended if you fancy an ultra planning to go for it again in 2013.
