And so, as the great stopwatch of time remorselessly counts down towards the end of another year, what's been the most memorable running event for you in 2011?
For me I think it was the Calderdale Way relay. This finally kick-started me out of the decline of the previous 2 or 3 years and restored some kind of motivation for running. Great day, great team event - band of brothers (and sisters).
How about you?

Compared to previous years, no great achievements for, but the one that sticks out for me was:
Hope Moors & Tors Challenge (that warm weekend begining of October) in Derbyshire
The 8.5 mile "Hope Skyline" route was quite breathtaking (going up it was anyway) taking in Cave Dale, Mam Tor, Lose Hill and Hollins Cross.
Coincidentally the start was outside the pub (The Woodroffe Arms in Hope) previously owned by my ancestors during the 18th & 19th century. I unsuccessfully tried to claim my right to a free pint.

For me it had to be the Fell relays in Kettlewell. Superb setting, lovely weather, great organisation, good company and more cake than you could shake a stick at!
Running was ok as well

Hitting a PB for half-marathon in Liverpool was very good. As it was just over the 90min mark it's spurred me on to try for better, rather than thinking that it's all down hill from here.

Difficult to pick a personal highlight of this year for me as I was lucky enough to have an injury free run throughout the whole summer, which as we all know is the key to racing well. I think the Lake Vyrnwy half marathon in September stands out for me because it far exceeded my expectations .A strange race in which I lost my garmin signal early in the race and gave up on it altogether thereafter .I just ran to how I felt but by three miles I thought this is not my day, I was hurting and the pace felt slow, my mind was drifting to another shot later in the month maybe. It was only when I got to the nine mile point and I asked another runner (who seemed to be cruising) what pace were we running at and he said 7.20-7.25 that I realised the possibilities and I pushed on to the finish. It was the the fastest half I have done since the 1990's so I was over the moon and slightly shocked.

Probably running alone during the ultima frontera 160 in spain, didn't see any other racers for about 60km . Although i felt really good on nottingham ultra too coming up the street infront of the castle to break the tape and a good crowd cheering was a great buzz!

Most memorable for bad reasons was probably Tough Guy in January, getting electrocuted whilst running an obstacle course and crashing through ice into freezing cold water for an hour and a half. Not be in hurry to do that again!

The Langdale Horseshoe was my highlight of the year. I think because it was on the back of gradual improvement throughout the previous few months. The Langdale was the first fell race I ever saw when I was out walking about five years ago, so it was great to finally run it myself. It's a brilliant race, and excellent location - a real challenge.
