I did the Forest Park XC training session for the first time yesterday and I thought it was a really useful workout. Its a good blend of speed and stamina, plus good fun. I recommend this session to all members, particularly if you are doing any XC races this winter. Thanks to Julian for leading the session.

Merv will be taking it next Saturday (19th Nov). We try and alternate who takes the sessions to keep it fun and varied. The session is suitable for all abilities as you run as hard as you want to. If you want to improve you have to work hard.

There were quite a few first timers on Saturday, including me. BTW Pickster, it starts at 9:30am - meet in the usual Forest Park car park.
I'm trying to do most of the cross country races this year after many years of not doing any, so I thought I'd get in some proper training! It was hard but enjoyable. For instance, after warm up, we ran round a loop through the trees at the furthest part of the X/C course, alternating 1 min hard with 1 min recovery, 6 reps of this. Another was practising running downhill quickly.
Despite the lack of series rain, the ground was quite wet, so don't use your shiny new trainers if you want them to stay looking new...
I won't go into detail, but do come along and try it. There were all abilities from the usual quick guys, down to slowies like me!
